Croatia: Citizenship Not Only For Sale In ‘James Bond’ Movies

inavukic's avatarCroatia, the War, and the Future

Croatian passport for sale

It looks like the Croatian president Ivo Josipovic and his politically minded allies from “former” communist echelons, i.e., the equally incompetent Social Democrats government led by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, have watched too many James Bond spy movies and have concluded that suitcases filled with cash and several passports one always saw in the fiction genre as the spy’s tools, could in reality be successfully used as a quick getaway from the economic crisis that’s consistently pushing the country towards bankruptcy.

Only a couple of days ago the Croatian President had announced that he salutes the government’s freshly baked idea of putting Croatian citizenship up for sale! They said the idea needs more work and weren’t sure as to what price tag should come with the citizenship. Millions of Euro per citizenship hit gluttonously swirl around the minds of those in Croatia who think that the economy could be saved…

ISIS torture based on Guantanamo torture

petrel41's avatarDear Kitty. Some blog

This video from the USA is called STILL Think Waterboarding Isn’t Torture? Try it Bush.

Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands:

“James Foley waterboarded by ISIS

Update: Thursday 28 Aug 2014, 23:29

ISIS fighters in Syria have tortured at least four prisoners by waterboarding, The Washington Post reports. One of the victims was the American journalist James Foley, who was later beheaded.

In waterboarding someone gets a cloth over one’s face, then water is thrown over it. This leads to a feeling of drowning. The United States used the method often in Guantánamo Bay, until President Obama banned it.

ISIS has copied more Guantánamo techniques. Eg, ISIS prisoners also wear orange overalls and they are sometimes subjected to mock executions.

How Do You Become an ISIS Terrorist?

JC's avatarSweden and the Middle East Views

ISIS or ISIL or IS – they are so creative in their name changings, I have to give them that – has startled the whole world it seems with their ambitious brutality. The Iraqi military just gave up their weapons and ran, despite the years and years of trainings from American experts, trying to compensate their invasion. The Kurdish Peshmerga tried to hold the fort but failed. But should we really have been so surprised?

I won’t discuss what a failure it is for Iraqi intelligence not to recognize the threat of ISIS, nor will I discuss the exclusion of minorities from the Iraqi government and the consequences it has had. This blog post will go back in time, and ask how these young men became ISIS terrorists in the first place.

How can a normal human being become attracted to such a merciless, murderous organization with no respect for…

Getting To School On Time

Jackie Saulmon Ramirez's avatarParent Rap

By Jackie Saulmon Ramirez | August 27, 2014

The appearance of those big yellow buses triggers kids’ mad scrambles and parental moans across the country.

Seeing a big yellow school bus instantly reminds me of Chelsey and Katie’s experiences catching a ride; frantic searches for things to cram in their backpack and teeth half brushed after a leisurely breakfast. It was not always an easy issue for me and my fellow Parents Anonymous Group members would agree. We each took our turns on the “pity pot” to bemoan missed buses and trips to school with a tardy child. We each had different approaches and some worked better than others; here is what I did.

The All-Important Ownership

Alarm clocks are one of the first self-imposed limits set by my daughters.

Getting the girls each their own clock and teaching them how to use it was the first step. We calculated…

Carry Me Home

Willow Snow's avatarWillow Snow

I’ve traveled the world
But nothing prepared me
For when love averted my eyes
Dropping me in uncharted lands
Needless to say I got carried away
Getting drunk on euphoria and
High in his hypnotic gaze
Dizzying my senses
‘Til I fell into his arms
Love had conquered my heart
Breathless and defeated
I whispered
‘carry me home’

Butchart Gardens – Excerpts From a Photo Shoot

Kirt D Tisdale's avatarthewallgalleryblog

The excerpts from a photo shoot I want to share today are from Butchart Gardens just outside of Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island. My photography doesn’t even begin to do justice to the beauty of these gardens. What started out on the personal estate of the Butchart family and their cement quarry has evolved into a National Historic Site of Canada. I chose this backdrop for today’s example in cropping photographs.

Cropping: to cut the edges to produce a better picture or fit a given space.

I want to talk today about cropping a photograph to produce a better picture and/or pictures as in the examples. I talked about this awhile ago when I had a client ask me to take a landscape picture I had created and turn it into two portrait prints for their wall (reference my blog: Fountain Urns). A similar theme surfaced this week…
