The “I HAVE” attitude

onepersonmatters

I have noticed a very interesting connection in life. Every time I set my mind on accomplishing or doing something, I always feel I don’t have what it takes to get it done. Have you ever caught yourself feeling like this? Let me explain. When I want to go to a friends party- I don’t have something nice to wear. When I want to loose some weight, I don’t have the right gym membership or equipment. When I want to do something romantic for my partner I look at my bank account and say may be some other time! When I want to spend time with my kid (family) I don’t have the time off… and the list goes on and on. When I feel like this I flip through my idea book in my mind several times… but never get anything done. I say “NO” to myself because I believe…

Song Bird Songs

She stepped into the surf, skirts gripping her legs in a fatal embrace like the problems that overwhelmed her. They say drowning is one of the easier ways and this way no one need know. They’d put it down to youthful recklessness, ignorance of the underlying rip tides.
Stepping deeper she looked out over the endless ocean, the waves beating timeless rhythms against her chest. Death embraced her in its folds encompassing her in comforting swells. The sun was setting, like her life. She paused to take in the blood red of its reflection as it painted bands of pink on a cerulean sky.
It had a beauty all its own. Troubles and torments melted away as she stood face to face with infinity. What lay beyond? She knew the landscape. Beyond the rolling Pacific waves lay tiny islands of hope and a whole unexplored continent, the mysteries of the…

Of Seagulls and Grandsons

Today was one of those perfect summer days. Blue skies with big fluffy clouds. A light wind and perfect temperatures. My sister’s company picnic was held at the Great Lakes Science Center. The center is located on the lake overlooking  the port and next to the Rock Hall of Fame and Museum. It really is pretty, but I digress.

We arrived around ten o’clock and the center was jammed with my sister’s coworkers. We made our way to the exhibitions and Tyler lead the way. He had been there twice this summer twice already. He knows his way around. What he loved was the batting cage and a stationary bike that turned on lights. He likes to compete with himself. So we wandered around and checked everything out. Every time I turned around he was at the batting cage.

We had lunch and took bread out to feed the seagulls and I used my phone camera to take pictures. He fed them a lot of bread and they really had fun catching it i midair and screaming if they didn’t get any. So he had to actually throw some to the squeaky wheels. It was a successful and fun day. Oh, by the way, he hit the strike zone every time he threw the ball and at nine was almost always at 46-48 mph. I was proud. A good time was had by all of us.
