The Lives of Women

No matter how old you are, walk your truth

A woman writes herself a life each day as she moves in the now. Virginia Woolf said that only women stirred her imagination. I would add only women have moved me to action and power. If I would write my life it would be to try to protect other women from tragedy and abuse and grief. It would be to say my complete truth without fear of consequences.

Often in literature and in every day life, women’s every day life, our friendships are belittled, and misunderstood. Yet, as women, friendships enliven us, fill us up and give us a way out of lonely grief.

” Affection…means the state of influencing, acting upon, moving, and impressing, and of being influenced by other women.”—-Janice Raymond

Audra Lorde once stated, ” I speak without concern for the accusations
that I am too much or too little woman
that I am too black or too white
or too much myself
and through my lips come the voices of the ghosts
of our ancestors
living and moving among us.”

“To justify an unorthodox life by writing about it is to re-inscribe the original violation, to re-violate masculine turf.” —Nancy K. Miller

No Hurry, No Worry

ron_mueck_head-sculpture-hyper-realistic-mask-iiI am in no hurry;
if I do not finish,
I leave the work for
another day. If I have
no more days, work of
value will pass to
another. If not, it
stops with me.

Nothing is permanent,
nor should it be.

Bella the belly dancing bear

elfkat's avatarAdventures and Musings of an Arch Druidess

There once was a bear named Bella. She lived in the woods of the National Forest and she was very content except for one thing, she wanted to learn to dance.

Bella lived near a large campground. She watched large groups of people come and go all the time but one group came every year and this group intrigued Bella. The people there sang and danced all weekend. They sang to the trees and they sang to the sky. They sang to the animals of the woods. They sang and drummed at night to the stars and they sang to each other and they danced…

Bella loved to watch the dancing and she loved to watch the groups of women who danced wearing beautiful colours and sparkly gold discs and she wanted to be like them. The other bears near her thought she was nuts. They caught her deep in…

Incomplete Moments

Reaching Out's avatarThe Unlettered Bard

Still haunted by the memories; sleepless nights filled with reveries…
The dust gets blown away off a shelf in disarray,
as I flip through tearstained pages; and time-filled empty spaces
raising thoughts of you and me from my mental diary…

Tracing back to all those incomplete moments,
Along the track – shattered dreams and spewed contents,
Those moments of passion – still unfulfilled,
Stewing frustration within the walls we built…

Doors that we did open – deep inside our head
All those words spoken, yet, so much left unsaid…
To passion we had awoken – in love – heels over head!
Yet, suffering heartbroken as we lay beside in bed…

We stood beside one another; but not with each other
With kisses never tasted, and all that time wasted
We fought, we argued – we hurt each other so much
In anger instead we brewed – to avoid each other’s…

CONSCIOUS: A sense for seeing the visible

With effort you can see what is really there. Hugs, Barbara

Conceptual Mathematics's avatarConceptual Mathematics

Seeing that which is right in front of our eyes—that which is clearly visible to the naked eye of each and every one of us—is, for whatever reason[s], not that fashionable in academia.  But that’s no reason not to try to make seeing the visible the new black!

Du Bois discerned double consciousness, a universal of conscious experience, in black experience.

Let’s see what we can discern in a leisurely walk across farmers market (do I miss meandering on India Street in Little Italy or what 😦  Noticing a placard apple / $1 on a brilliant red pyramid of apples, I inquired the price of 2 apples and found that it’s 2 dollars.

Can’t you find anything more boring, you complain.

Bed-time stories, more often than not, tend towards boredom and yet stay with us: all the way from the noisy childhood to the second childhood of…

Pool of Creativity

Is there a central pool of creativity
that we can tap into; a pool of art,
music, literature, science, sources of
all aspects of creativity waiting for
us to manifest at this level?

It is our heritage to create. I expect
people who are “not creative” have not
explored this aspect of themselves…
perhaps afraid to do so, “Not good enough,”
instilled in them.

There is great joy in creating. It
is the act itself that rewards, not
the end product, therefore making
all creative actions, “good enough.”

BETWEEN HER THIGHS

I helped start a Dv shelter in the 70’s. This poem is done so well. I remember counseling the women, writing briefs, taking pictures of injuries, taking them to the hospital, feeding the kids. This was my second job. I was a psych nurse too. I can’t begin to tell you the stories I heard, but I will tell you this…of the hundreds of women who passed through my life, I lost two. They didn’t listen and the men killed them. My heart has never recovered. This is such an amazing poem. Truth that flows like a brook.

The Man Who Was Buddha

Sitting in meditation

Sitting in meditation

Buddha was a mortal being, He was a young prince who left his life of ease and a hefty inheritance. He wanted to find his own way in life. He began the journey of his life. A journey that would take him to enlightenment. His human heart and mind was as vulnerable as yours and mine. He gave up everything to find what his life lacked. I am sure in monetary terms, he lacked nothing.

Buddha is now considered an icon of peace and harmony, yet his mortal life was filled with all types of turmoil and love and loss. His journey changed the world forever, the truths he found along the way still influence people all around the world. He went from vagabond monk to an enlightenment for the world. Enlightenment has led many to find themselves and the true meaning of life.

Buddha’s enlightenment was a literal awakening to the fact that you can share in the depths of your own primordial awareness today just as Buddha did during his life. Buddha’s teachings after becoming enlightened engage all the aspects of people’s lives. ” Whoever sees me sees the teaching.” –Buddha. After his enlightenment, he was raised to the rank of immortal. Buddha literally became the truth.
