President Barak Obama announced yesterday that writer and femininst activist, Gloria Steinem will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In addition to her activism she was a co-founder of MS. Magazine. I read it cover to cover every month.
This honor is the highest civilian medal in America. She joins nearly 600 distinguished people who have won the award since it was established in 1963.
The White House released that Ms. Steinem will be awarded the medal for women’s rights activism. The Presidential Medal of Freeman goes to men and women who have dedicated their lives to enrich others.
This year’s honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what set them apart is their gift is for sharing that talent with the world. President Obama said he is pleased to give out this medal as a token of our nation’s gratitude.
Gloria Steinem, is another one of the women who lead my life. I became a feminist before Ms. Steinem entered the orb of my world. Once I became aware of her and her work, I came to admire, her and when I got to actually meet her, my feet didn’t touch earth for a few hours.
Congratulations to the most amazing feminist I ever met.
