Health when Medicine Doesn’t Work

Winter 2014; crushing ice and cold

Winter 2014; crushing ice and cold

As many of my wonderful readers know I have been very ill since Christmas morning. I was in the hospital and home since. The cold is -40 degrees here today, wind chill. Frost bite can start in five minutes. I was listening to a debate about our climate on Mother Earth. Global warming took a vacation? I don’t know the answer to the question. I do know we are losing the ice at the North Pole while Antartica is gaining in the amount of ice it has. Which is why ice cutter ships are getting stuck. Now America is sending an ice cutter to free the other ships. I hope they can. I can’t imagine being in that kind of cold that these men and women on the ice cutters are enduring. That is heroism and I hope the world tells them how wonderful they are.

I can’t seem to get well. I am not as sick as I was and I have seemed to have reached a plateau and remain racked with coughs, phlegm and exhaustion. I have decided that the weather is not helping me to get well and I know there are many others who are facing the same dilemma. Medications can only do so much so what do we do? Well we do what we can to heal ourselves. Tea with lemon, chicken soup, allowing your body to get rest, wearing a mask when you go outside in the terrible weather and homeopathic remedies and affirmations. We can build the bridge between traditional remedies and alternative remedies. They can work together.

Ice and snow at the beach. It can get very bitter yet amazingly beautiful.

Healing the mind and body with medicine, affirmations, and intuition is entering the mainstream more and more. The last thirty years have seen a gradual acceptance of the alternative methods of healing that have been used to heal for thousands of years. Traditional Western medicine and alternative remedies are more and more being accepted. So how can they help us? The human body is an amazing machine. When I was in nursing school, I was blown away by what the body can manage to do to heal itself.  But it requires maintenance and care to run as efficiently as possible.

We know that anger makes muscles clamp down and blood vessels constrict, leading to hypertension and resistance to blood flow. Cardiac medicine has shown us that joy and love tend to have to opposite effect. When fear is your dominant mood over a long period of time, the constant release of stress hormones, specifically cortisol, triggers a domino effect of chemicals that lead to heart disease, weight gain, and depression. To completely heal our bodies, we must bring our attention to our bodies and what they are telling us. It is so easy to forget this and to just depend on what the doctors can do. We need logic and facts to fully understand which imbalances in our lifestyle are affecting our health.

There are affirmations which I use to help my body to function as it is supposed to and to help it to heal itself. I am going to share a few of them with you to ignore or try out. They have helped in the past along with Western medicine, acupuncture and homeopathic remedies.

My purpose is to learn to love unconditionally.

I accept all of me.

I’m creating lots of room for love.

I release the need to be perfect.

I release the need to dwell in resentment.

I am the responsible power in my life.

I also suggest looking into a mirror. Really looking yourself in the eyes. I say. I love you. You are a child of the Universe. You are on the way back to health. You are a finely working machine. I am loved and I love others. I have good self-esteem and I am safe. Try it and go and see your doctor but say your affirmations.  Be good to yourself and remember to love yourself back into health. Make sure your inner dialogue is kind and loving  Here is to a healthy 2014 for all of us

Ice and snow is covering the northern face of Mother Earth. But the wheel of the year is turning and spring will be on its way.

I read in a science article that it is because of the warming of our planet. Because it has gotten so cold the nay-sayers are attributing global warming was a hoax. When you look at the photos over time of the far north you can see that the ice is melting. Gather the temps for each year and average them and that too shows a rise in overall temps.

    Take care of yourself, please.

  2. Warms hugs, homemade chicken soup and a massive dose of Vitamin D to someone who always makes me feel better….you!

    Hi Barbara-
Nice to see you back. Thanks to your sis for updates & keeping us posted on how you were doing.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Sorry that you are not back at 100%. Try to take it easy…Hopefully soon you will be back to your normal self again.
    Weather is crazy cold.
We were colder than Siberia today according to the news. And temps – with the wind-chills hit colder than Mars – Eek!
Stay warm & stay safe indoors.
    {Hugs}

I think you are on the right path, Barbara. One thing you might change; don’t refer to your body as a machine. It is an organism (I know. longer word . . .) It is alive and much more than some parts stuck together. This is why it responds to affirmations, etc. A quote from one of my favourite sources: “Spirit is the life, Mind is the builder; the Physical is the result” because “Thoughts are Things”. Once we know that, we begin to repent (which means to re-think). In changing our minds we change the outcome. However, there are many sorts of healing and only you know what is right for you. Go with your inner guidance, is what I recommend. From that we always learn . . .

It’s cold up here in Edmonton, too. We have yo-yo weather; a couple days of just above freezing, with freezing rain making everything slippery; then days of -20 or -30 or colder (that’s Celcius, by the way). But we have been lucky in that our power is still on, so that’s something. I check the weather ahead, then plan grocery shopping, library trips, etc.

Stay warm, Barbara. I wish you all the best, including a return to good health. Thanks to your sister for keeping us informed. Bit hugs to you (and warm thoughts, too). ~ Linne

  6. I had problems with undiagnosed health problems, off and on, for years. They seemed like ‘colds’. I eventually got in contact with a holistic doctor and he found the problem right away. It may be worth it if this problem seems to keep cropping up to search for a second opinion.

Reblogged this on Spirit In Action and commented:
Thank you for posting this. Beautiful images, very useful advice! I hope you will feel better soon. I am keeping you on my distance reiki list and I may be increasing my frequency of sending since so many friends are now in difficulty.

I’ve had a lot of luck with herbs and qigong/chi kung lately. Have been ill but healing better than in years
past when every cold ended up in months of
    pneumonia.

The chi kung exercise called Lifting the Sky is the only one I have mastered but if I do it, it helps noticeably. I posted about it a while ago and there is a good video on YouTube of Master Wong ( Wong Kiew Kit) demonstrating it.

I recently started applying heat to the kidney area with s heating pad because I read about how that is crucial to our energy system. A book.I have on east-west herbs recommends wearing a harimake to keep that area warm at all times. I will try to copy the page and post it-the instructions for making the harimake are very easy.

The cold and storms are actually predicted in global warming theory I read about it in 94 how the arctic blocking might break down leading to stronger winter storms and more deep cold reaching the lower 48 and western Europe.

It also predicted the increased droughts and crazy wildfire and tornado seasons as well as fewer but bigger/more powerful hurricanes.

The movie The Day After Tomorrow has a website with crazy weather news like in tbe movie-only almost all of it even some if the freaky events in the.movie were actually real things that happened. Giant hail, thundersnow-who ever heard if thundersnow-who before recently?

The interesting/tricky part is that Gaia is a super complex-ie chaotic system. She can do anything from here and we may not be able to predict any if it because as the chaos in a system increases it reaches a point of jumping suddenly to a new state of organization.
Luckily those of us who are spiritually inclined can trust in Her to know best what to do. It could be kinda scary for people who lack any kind of faith.tho.

At least it isn’t boring to be alive now, eh?:-)

The cold weather has been so brutal. It felt like a relief when the temperature went up to zero today. Hope you are feeling better every day. Best wishes for a healthy 2014 for you as well! Karen
