New Species of Mayfly Discovered in India

Annapolis, MD; July 28, 2014 – Scientists have discovered a new species of mayfly in the southern Western Ghats, a mountain range along the west coast of India. In fact, this is the first time that any mayfly belonging to the genus Labiobaetis has been collected in peninsular India.

The new species, called Labiobaetis soldani, “is named in honor of Dr. T. Soldan for his substantial contribution to the understanding of the Ephemeroptera of Palaearctic and Oriental realms,” according to the authors of a study that describes the new mayfly in the Journal of Insect Science.

The larvae have light-brown heads with light-yellow antennae, and they grow to be about 4-5 millimeters in length. Adults are also about five millimeters long, and…

This photo moment happened on a Safari in South Africa.  Please note  this is an African elephant.  Without a doubt, the Indian gentle giants are much friendlier !

“America” …. why do they come??

~~August 2, 2014~~

I walked into my family room, the TV was on. A movie was playing: “The Jazz Singer” with Neil Diamond.

This brought back so many memories. This movie was one of my favorite ones. I remember playing the LP version of the soundtrack over and over and over again. This movie fascinated me because of the theme and the music.

Interesting to note that when I caught what was left of it, the last song brought to mind the current crisis with illegal immigration.

I don’t pretend to be an expert on this issue. However, I see and read about what is going on. This country was founded through immigration of many people from many countries.

Why do they come here? Catch the lyrics to “America”.

“America”

Far,
We’ve been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star

Free,
Only want to be free
We huddle close

Heartbeat: My Life, My Struggle, and the Love I HAD

Shared by Veronica.

“My husband is not the one for me” and that reality has slapped me hard in the face.

I never really paid attention to any abandoned buildings, until I, myself, became one of them. Now I look at all of them so carefully. Those paints scrapping out of the walls and, infrastructure remaining dying a slow poisonous death. I try and sense the aura around to see if I can still smell the life that once resided in here. They are just like me, once full of life, dying a slow death.

I am Veronica, 26 years old, MARRIED

Life was boring and monotonous until i walked into Ashton Garcia. Ashton is like a normal man, nothing different from ‘my husband’ Adrian but I have a CONNECTION with him – “When you know, you know”. The closer i get, more I realize, I cannot be with…

A Fairy Tale and other musings

In case anyone was wondering the moon finally made his pronouncement at about 9pm last Sunday and declared we should all go to work the next day!

Hey ho, another “learning to go with the flow” experience!

kili moon

We did then get Tuesday and Wednesday off, which is interesting as it was a Muslim holiday connected to the finish of Ramadan, but everyone here observed and celebrated the holiday. Any excuse for a day off, I hear you whisper rudely! Maybe, but I think not. My point is, think about the harmony between the prevalent religions here, IE: Christian and Muslim. Just a thought world.

Education shouldn’t be this frustrating!

This past week has seen the efforts of returning volunteers at Good Hope resulting in some significant and exciting information coming through and in my understanding of the complexities of the system I am working within. The great news is…

Don’t they all look alike?
Don’t they all look like variations of colors splashed on a painting?
Some colorful, some cheerful,
Some dull, some indifferent and some faceless?
Doesn’t it feel like a theatrical, a play?
Some are good performers, some are not so good and some don’t fit in?
Sometimes you see their mouths open and close, yet you do not hear their voices, you do not feel marveled, you simply do not feel,
Or you might feel uneasy, unwell, un-amused, or shadowed by their intentions,
And Sometimes you just hear their voices without them speaking and feel their passion draw you to their characters?
What a challenge it is to see what you see, hear what you hear and feel as such; yet you cannot, except be in such a circle,
