In Memory Of All the Brave People Who Died So Bravely

It was America's second attack

It was America’s second attack

We all know where we were on 9-11-2001. I was sitting in a hospital waiting room because she was having surgery. I asked if I could turn the television on. I did turn it on and before I could sit down, I watch Matt and Katy go pale and ask what was that. The rest we know.

My father always talked about Pearl Harbor. The first time America was attacked. He saved newspapers with screaming headlines that the Japaneese attacked Pearl Harbor many service people were killed. Many ships from our Pacific fleet were docked and sunk due to the bombs.

All day long, I like many, talked to everyone we knew. Just to be sure they were safe. I was lucky. So many American families were no so lucky. Not only were the victims brave but their families continue to live bravely every day. The passengers and crew on Flight 93 were amazing and I am so impressed by their courage. The fact that they fought back must bring pride through the grief to the surviving family and friends. Bless them all.

Of all the bravery we saw that day and in the following days, to me, the passengers that fought back and made their plane crash were the bravest. I am sure as each of them made the decision to fight, an angel was with them and took them to their afterlife.

So many are lost, Not all of them were Americans. There were people from many countries and they experienced a new kind of warfare. America was experiencing a kind of war called Jihad.

Thank you for your bravery.

Thank you for your bravery.

America also remembers and honors the brave first responders.  Being a nurse, I can imagine a little bit what they saw and had to deal with. I know that every first responder was miraculously selfless.  Many gave up their lives to get people out of the wreckage. Many now have to live with the after effects of their bravery. Each day, our country owes them so much. They saved many lives. They found many victims buried in rubble. May God bless every first responder and all of the workers who suffer illness because of their desire to help the people. Thank you all for what you did for America.

Florida Stand Your Ground Victims: New Video

This is a serious problem not just for Florida but for innocent Americans.

A new video uploaded on YouTube today highlights a few more unarmed Florida citizens killed by someone who invoked stand-your-ground law.

The clip profiles Gary Hembree, Jordan Davis, David James, and Sherdavia Jenkins – all killed doing normal things we may take for granted. Like having fun at a Labor Day barbecue, or waiting at a gas station inside a friend’s vehicle, or showing a child how to play basketball – or, just being a child, playing outside.

Check out this 30-second clip on YouTube, and then, please share it!

Working With Police: How To Get A Permit For Your Demonstration

The modern women’s movement, as connected by the Internet, is damn good at identifying the need for physical, in-person demonstrations and getting people to show up for them.

As a general matter, however, there is less confidence in getting permits, working with police and the logistical side of getting boots in the streets. This process is often represented as more mystical or scary than it needs to be. Here’s a suggested process and some tips for making sure your demonstration, protest or visibility event is all up on the legal side of the law. These tips apply to demonstrations where nobody plans to get arrested. The good news is that, when organizers agree on this approach, it’s fairly easy to ensure no one does.

Don’t be rigid in your plans from the outset, saying something like “we are going to take over this corner at 3 p.m.” Leave yourself open…

Peace is the Better Choice

This music I am sharing is the soundtrack of my life and many others too. Some of them died in war and can’t tell you their stories. So I thought I would let the music and images tell it for them.

I have been to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. and there is overwhelming grief and sadness.  Now grandchildren are going with their parents to learn something about a grandfather or uncle. So many tributes and mementoes of love are left there. It’s energy is overwhelming.  I have been to Arlington cemetery many times to see JFK’s eternal flame.  The first time was in the 70’s.  I have also visited the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. The cemetery continues to fill with the graves of American young men and now women.

My point is simply this, once they are dead there is nothing to say to their families. They were doing what they were supposed to do. .. Fight a war. My prayer is for wisdom for all world leaders. Wisdom not hatred, not ego, not greed. I believe that this brink we stand at can be avoided with diplomatic hard work and much prayer. All chemical weapons of all countries should be destroyed. Let me repeat that: ALL CHEMICAL WEAPONS IN THIS WORLD SHOULD BE DESTROYED.

Any country who kills children should have to face trial in Nueremberg. There should be harsh judgement for these countries. The United Nations should do what it was formed to do. They should be doing the policing in this world. The United Stated of America is not the policing agent in the world. If the countries of the world would all assume responsibility and all act as one.., The UN. Then we might have peace in the world. It is possible it might work and it is worth our trying to stop war and bring peace.

War…What is it Good For?

Part of being in government in any country, is convincing people that a certain nation with a certain people is making  a war necessary. I feel WWii was a time I can’t argue with. I have not supported any war since then. And protested the Vietnam War. I am a proud American yet I don’t feel waving our stars and stripes means we need to go to war. I never believed President Bush that there were weapons of mass destruction. And I was right.

Having said this, if there are weapons of mass destruction in Syria and they are using chemical warfare against children this reeks of Nazi Germany. That is the biggest mistake that a government can make. I am for political negotiations. It would be wonderful if Russia and the United States could demand the weapons and they would be destroyed. And people would be given the medical treatment they  need.

There is no way to conceive what war is.  I spoke to a veteran over the weekend. He signed up, young and eager to serve his country. He was deployed. He saw buddies blown up. He has PTSD and will always have flashbacks. Before we ask our children to do this we need to be really certain that it is beyond a doubt that Assad is using chemical weapons on his own people.. I believe in President Obama and I trust him but I don’t always trust those around him. I don’t want to send someone’s child or grandchild to death from chemicals or from armed Syrians. I may become solidly behind our government but today I just keep thinking about pictures and video from different wars. These are a sample. War is the huge decision, we can’t just say oops, I was wrong. So the people of America and the world need to really be sure this is what they want.
