A Royal Robe Fit for a Future King | PETA UK

ThomasSTL's avatarLife or Lunch?

What do you get a young prince who has it all for his first birthday? Little Prince George will turn 1 this week, and we wanted to mark the occasion by giving him a compassionate gift which celebrates our nation’s love of animals. What could be better than his very own royal robe made with the softest faux fur to keep him snug, courtesy of The Throw Company?

prince-george-500x333

It’s never been easier to go fur-free, with so many luxurious, high-quality, eco-friendly alternatives hitting the market. Real fur pelts have to be treated with all manner of hazardous chemicals in order to prevent decomposition, and animals on fur farms live in appalling, filthy, cramped conditions. These animals will then be poisoned, bludgeoned, electrocuted or even skinned alive in order to produce coats, cuffs, collars and other accessories for both adults and children. Millions of animals, including minks, foxes and rabbits, are…

Self-Esteem In Children: What Is Our Role?

Jackie Saulmon Ramirez's avatarParent Rap

Most parents would never intentionally hurt their children, but unfortunately some do.

By Jackie Saulmon Ramirez | July 23, 2014

Discipline in a manner that teaches children instead of damaging their self-esteem.

Our self-esteem and what other people think of us are sometimes at the opposite ends of the scale. If I evaluate my worth, I take into account the volunteer work I do and how others value me as their friend, relative or acquaintance. Someone speaking negatively about me has no impact on what I think of myself. I am an adult. I can roll with the punches and I think I’m a pretty good person.

Children’s view parents as all-powerful beings while they are young so nurture that image while it lasts.

Children, on the other hand, rely heavily on the opinion of others to help form their view of themselves or their self-esteem. These ‘others’ include friends…

Insatiable Fools…

Seyi Sandra's avatarS. S. David

8420856299_cddcb313a1_b We Only Have One Shot At Life!

Like ducks, they suck up wealth, gulping with little regards to the poor.

Like darkness, they attract light but powerless to overcome it.

Like mould, they dance with filth in their regale splendour.

Like moot, they put argument forward and steal joy.

Like hurricane, they devastate and destroy.

Like dirt, they accumulate.

Like ghost,

It would all float away!

They are the insatiable fools…

******

I watched a very interesting, and rather unnerving drama called ‘The Joneses’ with my husband yesterday. It was such a very unexpected film. The film dealt with greed, and how humans just like the idea of accumulating wealth, jealous of other people’s successes and the mad, crazy, rush to have it all. It might be because I’m approaching the big four zero, but life isn’t really about all we can accumulate materially but all we can do to reach out to others, and…

B-z-z-e-e — B-e-e-z-z (5 MACROS)

Well, the question has been answered. Will the bees trust me using my macro lens as I photograph them from within my Lavender Bushes? I have a 60mm lens which is not a very long lens by far, and I work with no extension tubes. I use only my macro lens when I do all my macro photography.
