The Path to Freedom through Peace

The world has had many people who have held aloft the Light of Non-Violent Freedom in this world.  The loss of Nelson Mandela will not stop our Journey towards our destination of Peace throughout the Earth.  Nor will his passing extinguish the Light, because those who knew him, both personally and through his words and deeds, have already lit their own candles from his torch and together, we will kindle a new torch to lead the way.

To remind us that the path of freedom began prior to the birth of Nelson Mandela, a man of reconciliation and forgiveness, I am including some others whose words and deeds have shone a light in the world. I have added Duran Duran’ s song and lyrics because they are a band who has worked with Amnesty International for decades. People like these men/women will hold aloft the torch and pass it on until we have created a world where everyone is free and we are at peace. Rest in Peace, Mr. Mandela.

One Love

–Bob Marley

One love, One heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
Hear the children crying (One Love)
Hear the children crying (One Heart)
Sayin‘ give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Sayin‘ let’s get together and feel all right

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love)
There is one question I’d really love to ask (One Heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me

One Love, One Heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love)
So shall it be in the end (One Heart)
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
One more thing

Let’s get together to fight this Holy Armageddon (One Love)
So when the Man comes there will be no no doom (One Song)
Have pity on those whose chances grove thinner
There ain’t no hiding place from the Father of Creation

Sayin‘ One Love, One Heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
I’m pleading to mankind (One Love)
Oh Lord (One Heart)

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Let’s get together and feel all right

“Proposition”

–Duran Duran

“Bring back that child,” she said.
Spare me the price of freedom.
Cold is my baby’s head,
Blown by the wind of reason.
Even the rage behind
Cries out to see
We’re still standing
Under the closing edge.
Pay for the crime of feeling. When all your pride is dead
You must be scared instead.
A quiet word is my Proposition.
A promise made of a fierce day.
A body bleeds for this coalition.
Without surrender if you stay.
“Show me my youth,” she cried.
Wasted for desolation.
Hold up the sacrifice.
Pull down your institution.
Resting while anger flies.
Question’s the same.
Who’s deciding after the clouds have lain.
Shame on your generation. When all your guilt lies dead
You must be scared instead.
A quiet word is my Proposition.
A promise made of a fierce day.
A body bleeds for this coalition.
Without surrender if you stay.
When all your pain lies dead
You must be scared instead.

Military Officer Writes Troll-Like Attack On The Second Amendment

” Trolling. That’s the word that comes to mind when I read Lt. Col. Robert L. Bateman’s editorial on the Second Amendment in Esquire.

He’s got to be trolling the gun community. Either that or he’s bat-shit crazy. Those are the only two conclusions this humble writer can draw from reading his piece entitled, “It’s Time to Talk About Guns and the Supreme Court.

Seriously, no solemn individual — let alone an officer who swears to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic — says what he said with a straight face.

Consequently, he proposes a six-point platform that drastically curtails the Second Amendments rights of law-abiding citizens. As you’ll read below, it includes, severe restrictions on the types of guns one can own, confiscatory polices for guns that fall outside those…

End of an Era

Homage to Mr. Mandela

Bill Hayes's avatarmatteringsofmind

Of course, it was on the cards.  He was a very, very old man who had spent the best years of his life in political prison.   I remember that bright and hopeful day in February, 1990 when Mandela walked out of prison and into the world again.  He brought with him a dignity and poise, the like of which we hardly ever see in this world.   He brought no bitterness through those gates.  Together with F W de Klerk he broke the stranglehold of Apartheid in South Africa for ever.

One day I was walking past the entrance to the Guildhall in London.  I stopped as a big black limousine drove out and paused before entering the traffic.  I looked and then did a double take.  Nelson Mandela was sitting in the back, his face close to the window.  He saw my surprise; he grinned and waved.  Then he was…

Fox Nation Readers React To Death Of Nelson Mandela With Racism, Death Wishes For Obama

This is free speech but it is filled with hatred and mean evil energy. It is just the opposite of the concept of one world.

kstreet607's avatarThe Fifth Column

Some might ask why bother to publish this stuff.  To that, I reply, why not?  Why protect the SOBs by not publicizing their inanity?

Newshounds

Fox Nation posted a respectful article about Nelson Mandela’s death – and many of their readers responded in kind. But many erupted in such shocking racism and/or death-wishing hatred for President Obama that words fail us. You really need to see them for yourself. (H/T Andrew S.) UPDATED

This is what passes for “tolerance” and “civil discourse” on Fox Nation:

The 2013 Honour Role.

This is very wise.

Jayde-Ashe's avatarThe Paperbook Blog

So, as you are all probably aware by now, the final Issue of The Paperbook Collective for 2013 has been published.

It’s been quite a journey! Despite a few hurdles we have managed to put together five issues of this creative, collaborative magazine. Suffice to say it has far exceeded the humble expectations I had for it back in July. I honestly envisioned a magazine of perhaps five pages, mostly my work with perhaps one or two articles contributed by other bloggers. The response I have had to this magazine has been overwhelming, it has achieved exactly what I hoped to design: a magazine that showcases creative talent from across the globe.

Yesterday I spent several wonderful hours visiting as many contributor blogs as I could to write a little personal note of thanks for being a part of The Paperbook Collective in 2013. But there are several contributors who…
