Once Again, Men Decide the Fate of Healthcare for Women

Room Full Of Men Decides Fate Of Women’s Health Care

Conservatives say health plans shouldn’t have to cover maternity services.

By Amanda Terkel

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with a group of conservative male lawmakers to determine the fate of maternity coverage in health care plans Thursday.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus, which is composed of all men, went to the White House to talk with the president about what changes they’d like to see to the GOP health care bill. One of the major adjustments would be no longer requiring insurance companies to offer maternity care in all health plans.

Pence proudly tweeted a photo of the meeting, which didn’t feature a single woman (although White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was reportedly there):

Another photo, tweeted by Trump’s social media director, showed two women standing in the background:

The Affordable Care Act created a list of 10 essential health benefits that all health insurance plans must cover. Pregnancy, newborn and maternity care are on that list.

Before the Affordable Care Act became law in 2010, the insurance market was a bleak place for women. They often had to pay more than men for the same coverage. Only 12 percent of individual market plans covered maternity care. And it was completely legal for insurance companies to refuse coverage to women who were pregnant or might become pregnant in the future.

But many Republicans argue that this pre-2010 system was better, because men shouldn’t have to pay for things like maternity care. Republicans argue that premiums will go down if people can shop around more for a la carte services.

Experts worry that if insurance companies are given the option of offering expensive services like maternity care, it will become a race to the bottom where that coverage, once again, becomes scarce.

But there were few, if any, women at the White House this morning to voice these concerns to the men around the table.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told reporters Thursday that the GOP health care bill could end up “making being a woman a pre-existing condition.”

“Stripping guaranteed maternity care is a pregnancy tax, pure and simple,” she said.

In one of his first acts as president in late January, Trump signed an executive order regarding funding for abortion and women’s reproductive rights worldwide surrounded entirely by men.

Since the beginning of time, men have tried to tell women how to live their lives. Even if they lived in caves.  The male of the species seem to feel that women need supervision on how to live their lives. What has that included? It has included where to go, who to see, when to go out of the house, whether to go on to school, what to wear and now if we should have children and when we should have them. The new issue in 2017 is why should men have to pay for pregnancy? They might have a case if they weren’t also involved in contraception and fertility. The GOP does not want to pay for contraception, pre-natal care, or labor and delivery, but they will of course cover Viagra. Who, exactly, are they using the Viagra with?   Contraception, pre-natal care, labor and delivery do not affect just women. The by-product of the male/female relationships are human children. Human lives. Lives that need love and guidance from both parents. If the males of the race do not want to have responsibility paying for contraception, pre-natal care or even maternity leave then why are we listening to them as they go on telling us what to do with our bodies, when and with whom? It is morally wrong to let men tell us how to live our lives and use our bodies. GOP or Democrats, it doesn’t matter.

Women are equal and free human beings. We must be be in control of our own lives, our bodies and not boyfriends, husbands or even Congress.

Let’s talk Reality

GOP logic

GOP logic

If you look at what the GOP Is saying and then look at the bigger picture, the picture where everything counts, what they say is just selfish. This is a democracy. One set of people are more important than all of the rest? No, this isn’t true. if it would be true then this wouldn’t be a democracy. The Founding Fathers came up with a new idea, Democracy. They wanted freedom of speech, religion and the right to be equal to everyone else.

Not only did we go to war with England to have these rights, many people who lived here then, didn’t want anything to do with a democratic country. They worked against the colonists who were fighting the English. Families divided over the question just as they did over the Civil War. The Civil war was fought to preserve the Union and to free the slaves. Our bloodiest war.

You know the outcomes as well as I do. During the ensuing years, we have argued, and filibustered, over everything. And we have made others suffer for our benefit. The Chinese were who really built our rail system, after Pearl Harbor we interred the Japanese people who had lived here for generations. We basically put them in concentration camps while we fought to get the Jews, Polish and Gypsies out of the camps. The difference was that we did not experiment on their bodies, or gas them but we did take away their freedom. In the land of the free, we put them behind wire fences and robbed them of their freedom and rights as American citizens.

Women today need to be legally equal. We are not beasts of burden and we are more than baby making machines.  The GOP doesn’t want to pay for women’s health or contraceptives. I have heard Republicans say that they don’t want to pay for women to have sex. But..Viagra should be paid for. The phallic symbol of male dominance is important enough for insurance to pay for it. So let us logically look at what that will lead to. We enable males  to produce viable sperm and millions of women can’t afford to buy contraception. I see a huge increase of babies being born that didn’t ask to be here. No one wants to help feed, clothe or educate them. How many of these babies will be geniuses that will never reach their potential? They might be smarter than your children. Oh my!  Men who pay for sex do not pay for a child conceived in this business transaction. Actually, a prostitute will get arrested yet a John will go free back to his wife and children. Scott free. Why? Because they are men. And Caucasions and society will look the other way. Women make $.74 for every $1.00  a man makes no matter how well a woman does her job or how badly a man does his. He will earn more. He has that phallus.

Women run homes, PTA;s, corporations and governments yet we are not legally equal. Males use this as a way to control us…well this and rape. There is so much hypocrisy in our society right now that it is sickening. If God made Adam then he equally made Eve.  Yes, I know the whole story about the garden. The most important part of the story is that Eve offered the apple or the pomegranate to Adam. The owner of the phallus chose to eat of the fruit. Notice the word chose. He could have said no, nope, no thanks, no way but he said yes. He thought it over in his mind and decided that he should eat of the fruit. Yet we aren’t equal. He is worth more and is a better creation than a woman? I Don’t Think So. Why do men feel so intimidated by the thought that women should be legally equal?

As far as the Affordable Health Care goes. Yes we were made a promise and we now know it can’t be kept. President Obama pledged no one would lose their health insurance. And he was unable to keep his promise because many policies cost less than $100 per month but covered nothing. So you pay a low premium and you get stuck with the bills. Now some people will spend some more on premiums, it varies, but more procedures will be covered. The richest 1% doesn’t have anything to worry about because whatever happens in their lives, there is enough money to fix it. There will come a time that you will be glad to have our new health care. Prices of medical care will continue to go up and substandard insurance just won’t help. We the people, have voted and spoken. Trying to scare them to death isn’t going to work because time will show that this Healthcare Act is going to make life better for their lives.  So, once again, I have to say, Shame on you Congress.

Twenty two Republicans Voted Against the Violence Against Women Act

Washington DC is a remarkable city. There are the politicians and Congress and the White House. I have gone there many times to see art museums. I love borrowed exhibits. I have also been in the mall more times than I can remember for protests and picketing for women’s and children’t rights.

Yesterday, Congress did pass the Violence Against Women Act. This is a wonderful victory for women. But don’t get too excited because there is still a war going on against women. And this piece of legislation must be ratified by Congress every five years.

We still must work to receive legal equality. We, the women of America, are the only citizens who do not have legal equality. This needs to be passed this year. There is still much discrimination against women and minorities.

I suggest that everyone looks for the voting record of your Congress people. Look at who is voting against women and children. If you have one who has voted against legislation you believe in, it is time to vote againt the Congress person in the next election.

We can change women’s lives with our voices and our actions. We can use peaceful ways to debate and state the importance of respect for women, reproductive health concerns, education, equal pay and legal equality. Don’t leave it for someone else to stand up and tell the world our truth. We are sisters and need to stand up with and for the women of America.

Rights for Women Won’t End on November sixth

November 6, 2012 does decide who will be our President for the next four years. What won’t be decided is what will happen to women and our rights and issues.

In 2013, we face another important battle in Congress. We need to have passed the legislation to make women legally equal. Think it is not necessary? That is what they said about women voting. Essentially, they said we weren’t smart enough to vote. Not only are we smart enough but we are smarter than some men. Nothing personal.

Women are still going to require access to contraception. The whole “be fruitful and multiply” thing is well past the point of no return. We have seven billion plus human beings on this planet and I believe we have fulfilled the directive.

Children around the world are dying from hunger, lack of clean water, violent revolutions, greed, bigotry, racism and in some countries if a girl is born she will be left to die. Baby girls die alone, unwanted and unloved. Even if their mothers want them, the husband will throw both of them out, if necessary.

Here in America, the most prosperous country in the world, our children aren’t golden. They often lack proper education, health care, food, love, encouragement. Why you ask? Because they weren’t born into rich families, but into poor and disadvantaged families. Most of society turns away from the reality of what these children lack and what they suffer.

Domestic Violence is gaining victims. The laws we worked so hard to get on the books, are often not being enforced. Young girls are not being told no one has the right to pinch, punch, slap, rape, hit, demean, kick, or call them names. We must tell these girls there is help and they should not be forced to live in violence. There are help lines and shelters where then will be helped and legally protected in every state and in almost every town.

Human trafficking is where many boys and girls end up. Sold into sexual slavery and facing decades of being objectified and beaten by any man who has the money to pay for their services. These kids live in hell on earth. Their innocent souls corrupted and ravaged by men who only care about themselves and what their money can buy them.

All people have the right to live authentically. No one should have to pretend to fit in. Everyone needs to be accepted for who they are. Parents, society and governments need to make this possible…

I have barely scratched the surface, but I will continue to address these issues as time goes on.
