Proud to Be a Failing Teacher

Important post.

Aimee's avatarOne Woman

I beg your indulgence and forgiveness as I step away from my usual topics and post about my other life…my passion for teaching.

Teaching has not been a fun place to be in recent years.  Don’t get me wrong…I love it and truly cannot imagine doing anything else with my life.  But the public narrative has become one that vilifies all teachers and makes us out to be incompetent, greedy, lazy, and almost criminally negligent.  I hope that most of you know this cannot be farther from the truth.

In this video, Joshua Katz eloquently gives voice to the frustration that I hear every day in the teachers’ lounge.  Frustration that America has handed our public schools over to testing companies and for-profit charter schools while simultaneously attempting to completely sweep the far-reaching effects of poverty under the rug.  Poverty is too vast a problem, too fearsome to overcome. Blaming…

Be a Voice

Megan's Law's avatarMegan's Law Journal

I haven’t written in a while. Eight months to be exact. It seems that time got away from me and the longer I was away, the easier it was to forget Megan’s Law Journal.

But I’m back, and I’m ready to take on another issue in this blog–the issue of modern journalism.

There is a saying that some attribute to Albert Einstein. “Be a voice, not an echo.” I am writing this because I am not an echo. I am not part of a world that shares the same voice. Not anymore.

A year ago, I started working as an associate producer at NBC News in Burbank, C.A. I was 22 years old, fresh out of college and making a hefty hourly wage at a national news network. I saw stars.

But the stars soon faded. I realized I wasn’t a voice for the people. I wasn’t asking tough questions or producing…

The Spiritual Life of Water : Its Power and Purpose By Alick Bartholomew

I read this book. It was very good. Hugs, Barbara

Water’s wisdom on renewal, communication, and holism

• How water, as a conscious organism, unites all of creation in one vast communication network

• Includes the research of Masaru Emoto and Viktor Schauberger

• Discusses the energetics of water, water treatments, finding the best-quality water, and the perils of bottled and distilled water

Once held sacred the world over, water contains a wisdom few today acknowledge. Driving everything from our metabolic processes to weather patterns and climate change, its real significance lies in its role as a medium for metamorphosis, recycling, and exchanging energy and information.

Seeking a return to our ancestors’ reverence for water, Alick Bartholomew explores water’s sacred uses, its role in our bodies and environment, and the latest scientific studies to reveal that water is a conscious organism that is self-creating and self-organizing. Examining new discoveries in quantum biology, he shows how water binds all of life…

HATERS …. lurking out there!!

Dr. Rex's avatarIt Is What It Is

~~June 1, 2014~~

Hater is a derogatory term used to describe people who are derogatory towards people.

Haters behave as such not out of jealousy, but out of the need to reduce the target of hatred’s standing. The term is often used as an abusive ad hominem attack to dismiss any negative criticism. It is also often commits the fallacy of begging the question as it exempts the abusive use of the word hater from being considered hateful by assuming it’s reasonable and the criticism made by the supposed hater is not.

Haters are identified as people who offer solely negative criticism to others, without justification. Haters deal in negative cognitive bias, prejudicially arriving at a conclusion first and then drawing in their reasons afterward, refusing to alter their conclusion with exposure to the opinions of others. Haters are frequently thought of as imposing their self-hate on others.

Sunday in the Garden

It was a bad winter and very cold. When I went to North Carolina to visit my best friend, there were no weeds in my yard. When I returned home it was still cold. My sister usually weeds our garden, and the landscapers take care of the edging and mulching. But when I got home we were looking at her shoulder surgery and there was no time for her to weed first. The surgery was more extensive than anticipated, and the recovery is taking longer than planned, so there was still no weeding done.  Today, I decided to do some of the weeding myself, despite my back and the cane I need. And while I was at it, I took my camera out. I think I did more photography than weeding. There is some done and more to be done. My motto is: A little at a time.  So here are my pictures of the flowers that are blooming on this sunny, warm Sunday on the Lake.
