Are you Happy?

Happiness

There’s just no accounting for happiness,

or the way it turns up like a prodigal

who comes back to the dust at your feet

having squandered a fortune far away.

And how can you not forgive?

You make a feast in honor of what

was lost, and take from its place the finest

garment, which you saved for an occasion

you could not imagine, and you weep night and day

to know that you were not abandoned,

that happiness saved its most extreme form

for you alone.

No, happiness is the uncle you never

knew about, who flies a single-engine plane

onto the grassy landing strip hitchhikes

into town, and inquires at every door

until he finds you asleep midafternoon

as you so often are during the unmerciful

hours of your despair.

It comes to the monk in his cell,

It comes to the woman sweeping the street

with a birch broom, to the child

whose mother has passed out from drink.

It comes to the lover, to the dog chewing

a sock, to the pusher, to the basket maker,

and to the clerk stacking cans of carrots

in the night.

It even comes to the boulder

in the perpetual shade of pine barrens,

to rain falling on the open sea,

to the wineglass, weary of holding wine.   —Jane Kenyon

My water-themed pictures were taken at la Manzanilla beach, the Amazon River in Peru, Candelabra Island in Peru and my own pool/terrace overlooking Lake Chapala in Mexico.  Obviously, I couldn’t choose and actually could have posted hundreds more.  Water seems to be my “thing.”

We Become Friends: A Poem

Poetic Parfait

Friends Friendship: Will it survive? Exploration with poetry. Photo Source: Hollywata, CC BY-ND 4.0, via Flickr

I cherish my friends, those wonderful people who I let into my section of the world. They are people who I know online and in “real” life. Some friends are younger than me while others are older. Once you become a friend to me, I treasure you so much. Recently I had a bit of a falling out with a friend in “real” life here in Victoria, but we were able to work it out after she apologized to me. I am thankful. I understand that life is not always easy but friendship is something so important and worth fighting for!

Thank you to all of you who support Poetic Parfait and I as I do consider you all friends!

Here is a poem I wrote about friendship and the recent falling out that happened in…

It Is What It Is

STILL GOING PINK

The lotus flower represents one symbol of fortune in Buddhism. It grows in muddy water, and it is this environment that gives forth the flower’s first and most literal meaning: rising and blooming above the murk to achieve enlightenment.

The second meaning, which is related to the first is purification. It resembles the purifying of the spirit which is born into murkiness.

The third meaning refers to faithfulness. Those who are working to rise above the muddy waters will need to be faithful followers.

Old Iraqi Photos

Sweden and the Middle East Views

A Facebookpage that I follow is dedicated to show the world the old Iraq and regularly posts photos of a country many didn’t know exists. This is how the Rare Iraqi Pics page describes itself:

“Nostalgia is the only balm when we grow older… We miss our beginning as we approach the end.”

The page is popular, it has almost 40.000 followers, but the updates and descriptions are done in Arabic so many Westerners might not come across the page so easily. Therefore I decided to write about the page and share some of their photos with translations in English, with you.

Seduce me…

Soul of a Gypsy......Welcome to my Journey

Seduce me, why don’t you,
Capture my mind with your intelligence,
Stimulate me with your knowledge,
Take me with you,
Let’s mark a spot in this universe.

You are such an enigma.

enigma Gypsy soul: You are such an Enigma

Seduce me why don’t you,
Love me, for who I am,
Let’s travel together, to that unnoticed destination and make the ocean fall in love with us,
and the waves, oh those waves, cover our souls and revive our stories…

Seduce me, why don’t you,
Let this moment stand still and our hearts rejoice,
Love me, for who I am,
Let’s colour the clouds with our breaths,
The sky will feel jealous, the stars will unite and the moon…
