“Everything is fluid” – Jamaica’s Marcia Forbes Keeps Pushing Into the Media Future
Of course, I always knew Jamaican businesswoman and media strategist Marcia Forbes had an eye firmly fixed on the future.
Dr. Forbes has once again demonstrated her concern for young people – those who will frame our future. This summer, through her Kingston-based multi-media firm Phase Three Productions, Dr. Forbes is offering intensive six-day training workshops in videography to thirty young Jamaicans – free. The first workshop kicks off on August 11 at Phase Three’s Studio 45, The Trade Centre, 32 Red Hills Road, Kingston 10. Training includes lectures and hands-on sessions covering features of digital cameras, proper camera use and care, shot composition and angles, lighting and sound for TV, and more. Well-known local professionals will share their expertise with the trainees. “I screen them myself,” says Marcia. “Some very bright and talented youths have already been selected. I’m particularly excited about this project, which is set to widen the…

When rock bands switch lead singers… let’s discuss…
You rocked this post. Congrats! Hugs, Barbara
No… this is not a joke… I want to have a serious discussion about what happens when rock bands try to carry on after parting ways with the ‘voice’ of the band. It seldom works out well. I mean, AC/DC rocked it. That was pretty seamless. When Bon Scott died in 1980 at the age of 33, and Brian Johnson stepped in, the band hardly missed a beat with the Back In Black album.
This is an exception to the rule. Of course, there are a lot of situations where a band that nobody ever heard of got a new singer and then they became famous, but let’s ignore that for now.
Maybe I should start at the beginning. I am a rock dinosaur. A friend of mine once called me ‘Arty-fact of the 70’s’… probably the cleverest thing that guy ever came up with in his entire life. But…

A Friday song to share
The Boys of Summer
Well, I do live in Cleveland and we do have the Indians. I love baseball and it is summer. Here in Cleveland we also have the minor league team. It is the Lake Erie Crushers. I have taken grands before but this time a group of my girlfriends and I went. It wasn’t the best game they have ever played but the pitching was tight. So I took a few photos to share with you. It was a great night. Not a cloud in the sky. The sky was a deep shade of robin egg blue. It was a warm evening warm without humidity.

Morning From My Garden
It is Saturday morning and it is tropical outside. The flowers are fragrant and exploding with color. I love summer nights when you can go outside and it is just you and the night sky. The stars have been my friends since I was a child and I love to go out and breathe deeply and feast my eyes on the firmament. I like to remember that I am star dust and it always make me feel so amazing. It makes me feel so alive and connected. At some time, long after we are all gone, the will be star ships up there and humans will meet other species. Our thoughts will still be traveling out there in space. The Universe will always carry the imprint of our lives and what we accomplish during our brief time here. Try going out and watching our little part of the Universe. Good morning to all of my friends and readers. Namaste

Women’s Rights in the Home
Domestic Violence and the War on Women is continuing. There are some Federal laws which protect women and some are state laws. Evidence, sentencing, police involvement can differ from state to state. In Pennsylvania, for instance there are firm laws to protect the victim. However, in Norristown, Pa. victims are penalized for calling the police for help.
Yes, I said for asking for protection, they are breaking the law.
There are three strikes in Norristown, Pa. If you are abused and call for help three times. No matter how serious your abuse is. The police will send your landlord or mortgage holder a letter asking them to throw you out due to the Three Strikes Rule. Nope, you didn’t misunderstand. I call it, let’s jump on the victim whether female or male. Let us increase the suffering. The city ordinance specifically includes “domestic disturbances” as behavior that gets victims thrown out of their homes.
A woman recently feared losing her home so much that even when her abuser attacked her with a brick, she was too afraid to make a call to the police. He later stabbed her neck and she was still to frightened of being homeless to call. He would get the house. After a housing court refused to order an eviction, the ACLU stepped in to protect the victim. The city backed off. The city of Norristown does encourage the battering of its citizens with this type of laws.
Norristown is not the only city in the country have passed “nuisance ordinances” or crime. Milwaukee’s Domestic Nuisance Ordance showed violence was the third most common reason that police citation. This is far above drug crimes, property damage, or trespassing. Women of color in our country suffer the most from these bizzare citations.
My suggestion is to go to your local police department and ask what the laws are where you live. If there are these type of laws, get involved. Women working together can accomplish anything they put their minds to. So remember: YOU CAN’T BEAT A WOMAN.
grounded
.
“Grounded” is an independent feature film based documentary about what is considered by many authorities to be “The Greatest Health RE-discovery of All Time.” – the concept was tested on the people of Haines, Alaska (population 1,700).
The surface of the Earth holds subtle health-boosting energy. The documentary goes to show that this amazing phenomenon, of connecting into the earth, can transform the life of people who have been struggling with health issues like chronic pain, and one man who had been wheelchair-bound for decades is able to walk again. Even plants are drastically impacted when they have been taken away from the Earth’s natural energy.
