The Wonders of the Weekend

This weekend, in the U.S. at least, Americans are celebrating our country, our veterans and our families and communities. Here at my house, the windows are open and the air is fresh. The fragrance of the flowers fills the air and the house. Birds sing and wind chimes sing and raise your spirits. The beach has waves breaking against them. Rib fests are going on. Picnics are the favorite way to eat dinner. Grills come out of storage and succulent food begins to cook on the grills and in ovens. Music plays. Children dive into pools. Music fills the air and the birds sing a long with the notes floating on the breeze.

Croatia: Communist System Murdered Innocent People Not Josip Boljkovac, Court Says

The 94 year old, Josip Boljkovac, was acquitted by the Zagreb County Court on Thursday 22 May of war crimes against civilians in the aftermath of WWII.
The 94-year old Boljkovac was accused that in the early May of 1945, as head of the Karlovac branch of the then Department of National Security (OZNA), which was the Tito-led Partisans’ security service, he had ordered the arrest and execution of 21 civilians from Duga Resa.
Judge Tomislav Jurisa handed down the Judgment, acquitting Boljkovac of the war crime while, in the same breath saying that “there is no doubt that the crime was committed but that there was no written order for the execution of the crime … not a single document leads to Boljkovac … it was simply a matter of crime committed by the system …which crimes have compromised the historically-affirmative antifascist battle…

a tired heart
she’s been so tired,
for everything,
for all the worries,
for all the pain,
she asked herself,
what is the reason I keep living?
until she feels a warm touch,
from outside,
a hand,
a warm hand,
then she realized,
the answer to her question,
she’s been living for that hand,
the hand which let her keep fighting,
through all the pains,
she closed her eyes,
and she beats,
she pumps,
until she opens her eyes,
and see that she’s shining,
the light radiates her surroundings,
she was a heart,
a heart whose still living,
in spite of all the grief,
she’s been suffering,
she keeps fighting,
until the day came that she shines,
she sparks endlessly,
and all the grief, pain and worries,
had been washed away

It has always fascinated me how many people have sacrificed their lives or the quality of their life for the freedom that all Americans enjoy every day. I can’t imagine the impact that these misfortunes have on not only the soldiers, but the lives of their families and friends.
I always take the time each Memorial Day to think of the soldiers and the freedom that we have and say a little prayer for all of those who are in harm’s way today.
Unfortunately, I am embarrassed and sorry to say, that I don’t think many people REALLY are grateful for the many things that they take pleasure in because of what our soldiers and veterans have sacrificed. It is for that reason that I decided to post some statistics of all of the wars that America has fought. I have found the following information…
