Today I am pleased to offer a blog spot to another poet—Patty. Just Patty. Once again I am amazed by the sensitivity of so many Dutch speakers to the English language. It must be something in the water. Here is Patty to introduce herself.

My name is Patty van Delft, born and raised in Holland. I write poetry under the name ‘Just Patty’.

Why the name ‘Just Patty’?

Because writing poetry is a naked reflection of the heart and soul, nothing more and nothing less. It’s Just Me without decorations.

I started writing poetry after my big brother died when I was 14 to find a way to express my feelings. I have always being attracted to the more darker forms of poetry, I adore Edgar Allan Poe. Maybe because dark poetry seems to be more raw.

Angelina Jolie has released a statement regrading the current situation of Syrian refugees. Jolie serves as a Special Envoy for the UNHCR.

“Three million refugees is not just another statistic. It is a searing indictment of our collective failure to end the war in Syria. International stability is steadily bleeding away in Syria. UN Security Council Resolutions are being ignored; war crimes are being committed on a daily basis; regional countries are staggering under the human burden; and Syrian refugees are dying in the Mediterranean Sea, trying to reach Europe. We need to see a new attempt to resolve the conflict and greater efforts to support more than 13 million Syrians who are in desperate need. The reputation and credibility of the international system is at stake with so many thousands of lives threatened in Syria.”

I strive to excel in your eyes, to let my spirit free.

You see no good where I stand.Only what hate  shows you.

You laugh at my efforts and criticize all I do.

Tell me I am obsessed and addicted  shout and bluster all you wish.

I have seen and heard  it all before, it is as predicted.

The tatters of my life like the rags clothing an old doll.

My soul has words yearning to be heard to make me whole.

That is why I write so these words can be free as a bird.

Why do you need to put me down,

Cast those looks at me and frown.

I spend no more time on my writing

Then you do when you are out doing your own thing.

My words need escape they need to sing.
