It will now go to President Obama who will sign it into law.

Never let a man slap, kick, punch, push, verbally insult or demean you. Call the police. It is a crime!

America, stop teaching that violence against women is allowed.

Not being from the U.S. I find this slightly confusing. Surely violence again anyone should be a crime?
Be it against male/female/gay/straight/black/white/salmon/purple/transgendered/inuit/were-shark and anything in-between.
I absolutely agree. This bill must be passed every 5 years. What is almost as bad is that women are not legally equal citizens. That is coming up this year also. The Equal Rights Amendment. There is a war going on against women these days. Thanks for your comment. Have a wonderful day. Where are you from by the way?
Sorry for the questions, but why must it be passed every 5 years? Why is it not simply law into perpetuity?
I’m a citizen of the world, but I was born in the land of Oz.
Well that was a good answer. I am quite fond of OZ. Actually is because of gender discrimination. Women are fine as long as they keep to their place. I helped to start a shelter for Battered women in the seventies. We still have statistics from the FBI that there is a woman beaten every 8 seconds in America. The religious right has a lot to do with this.
I agree. Any form of physical/metal/sexual abuse is a crime. Just because it goes on behind closed doors doesn’t make it questionable. I can’t understand why it had to go through the senate. It should be “He hit her – that’s a crime” “she hit him – that’s a crime” It shouldn’t be “It’s a crime right now, let’s see if we change our minds in five years”
Also I can’t understand why women aren’t treated as equal. It does irritate me when there is inequality. Whether black, white, purple, male, female, both, neither, gay, straight, curved, bearded ladies everybody is human. Eyes, nose, mouth, ears, arms, legs, heart, brain – all the same. You look at an x-ray of someone and you can’t tell their sexuality, or colour. Why should the colour of their skin be the same.
Sorry, ranting
It was a good rant Sir.
Hear hear, well said 🙂
Please feel free to rant anytime. Misogeny is rampant here in America but I must say it is much worse in other countries of the world. Hatred is not the way we were meant to be.
Beautiful blue beaches. beautiful blue skies, beautiful blue women. It’s a nice place to be. Aside from the killer wildlife.
Being no fan of organised religion I’ll happily add that to my personal tally of reasons why I find it detrimental to the development, spiritual or otherwise, of society.
I still don’t understand, from a legal standpoint, why this is not just the norm. It seems insane.
That 138(!) people voted AGAINST such a law blows my mind.
*Kudos on the, I can only assume, hard work you put in during the 70’s. Truly a noble endeavour.
