It was a dark and stormy night day. The perfect kind of day to curl up with a hot mug of steaming coffee and a new, lit screen Kindle. But, alas! The UPS truck just didn’t come as early as I hoped, and it was late afternoon before I was able to rip open the box.

The Kindle is packaged with a cord, but not with an AC adaptor. This isn’t a problem for me, because the adaptor is an accessory I use for several of my electronic gadgets, so I’m good to go. But an adaptor is something you will eventually need if you don’t have one, already.

As familiar as I am with my devices, it’s always a little daunting to grab on to a new one. As I lifted this Kindle out of the box I had a momentary brain-freeze when I couldn’t figure out how to…

See Link Above – Obama Beats Romney as Better for Middle-Income Americans

PRINCETON, NJ — More Americans believe middle-income earners would be better off in four years if President Barack Obama is re-elected than if Mitt Romney wins, by 53% to 43%. The public also says lower-income Americans would be better off under an Obama presidency, while, by an even larger margin, they say upper-income Americans would do better under Romney.

The Strategic Allied Consulting venture in Florida is headed up by Nathan Sproul, a well-known Republican political operative, who worked for Mitt Romney in 2011, when he worked at Lincoln Strategy Firm. This firm helped Romney gain signatures to get on several primary ballots.

This week, the Florida Republican Party fired Strategic Allied Consulting after the Palm County Election Supervisor’s office determined that 108 voter registration applications either had the same signature or lacked complete information.

According to the Associated Press, the Florida Republican Party has paid Strategic Allied Consulting a total of $1.3 million to date.

As I started working on this post, it was just to be the last of the history I had of the Turner Family before we moved on to the 1900s. Little did I know that it would end up being so much more for us.

During my initial research, I had found a number of documents at the Library of Virginia on Belle Grove and the families that called it home. One of those documents was a copy of a Presidential Pardon from President Andrew Johnson to Carolinus Turner for his connection to the rebellious uprising of the South. I would later find out that the original copy is stored in the archives of the King George Library. Currently the King George Library is undergoing some remodeling so I have not been able to visit and view any of their archives.

One thing that has eluded me has been what…

Last night, I attended a public debate hosted by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, on the rights of anti-abortion protestors to campaign outside abortion clinics. The pro-choice half of the panel consisted of Ann Furedi, chief executive of BPAS, and Sarah Ditum, a writer and journalist. The opposing half consisted of Andrea Minichiello Williams, founder of Christian Concern, and Max Wind-Cowie, a writer with centre-right political beliefs.

Both Ann and Sarah gave excellent speeches. While fully supporting the notion of freedom of speech as essential to the exchange of ideas, they argued that freedom of speech does not extend to the right to bully, harass, and intimidate. As Ann asserts, “It is not a kind of charter that allows you to say anything you want, to anyone you want, at any time you want, in any place you want.” And you can be sure that when anti-abortion protestors camp outside…

The Glitch in my Life

I apologize for not posting lately – I was in a minor car accident last Thursday; there was no damage to my car, but I was held at the hospital overnight for observation.   I am now re-organizing a few things and taking the week off, a vacation of sorts.  I hope everything has been going well for all of you, and I will be back next week!

An Unlived Life

A Scottish beach

At some time, really look at your bedroom. The one room in your house or apartment where you show who and what you are on the inside. Your passion, hopes and dreams are expressed. You reveal much of your deepest feelings about yourself.

It doesn’t matter if you live alone or not, a woman’s bedroom is a reflection of her inner most self. Often, we women have messy unorganized bedrooms and they are a picture of inner emotions. Often, a messy bedroom is an SOS for an unlived life. Our rooms are a haven or respite for our souls. We sleep there, and relax and read and have romance.

The definition of the purpose of the bedroom has expanded to being a secondary family room. Do you pay bills, answer, emails, iron clothes, or exercise?

We are at the turning of the cycle of life and the year. Time to rethink and resort what is important in our lives. It is time to stop being invisible and create a room for yourself that is as authentic as you are. The term ‘boudoir” turns our bedroom space into a decompression zone. A boudoir takes you to a completely new level of life. A place were we can take off the facade and be in attendance to our own thoughts and feelings.

So it is fine to have a Do Not Disturb sign on your doorknob and I encourage it. Solitude does not mean you are avoiding the family, you just deserve a few precious moments when you are focused on what you need. A chance to take a block of time to remember who you really are and what you want and where you want to go. This life of yours, is meant to be lived. Existing just doesn’t quite do it. Don’t stand still, bloom and live your life. The life you are grasping for, start making the steps to take youself there. Have a good journey!
